Kadotetun kulttuurin mysteeri

Mitä Suomessa ja tarkemmin Sallan pohjoispuolella Karhutunturin siimeksessä on tapahtunut ennen viimeistä jääkautta? Karhuoja -kollektiivi – kokeellinen, pseudotieteellinen ja monitaiteellinen tutkimusryhmä on löytänyt viitteitä ja jäänteitä kulttuurista, joka on elänyt Karhuojan varrella jopa ennen kahta edellistä jääkautta. Kulttuurin ominaisuudet viittaavat nykyiseen haltija- ja tonttuperinteeseen sekä nykyisin tunnettuihin loitsuihin. Kulttuurilla näyttää olleen erityinen suhde ympäröivään luontoon, josta merkkeinä ovat tässä ajassa esimerkiksi metsäpölyyn pohjautuvat tuotteet sekä luontaistuotteina käytettävät sienet. 

Pakanafestareilla pidettävässä luennossa kuvataan tämän hetkiset havainnot sekä julkaistaan kulttuurin luontosuhteesta luotu laulu. 

The mystery of a lost culture

The explorations and observations at the forest nearby Kuutsivaara have revealed several artefacts, spells and remains of the lost civilazation – presumably before the last ice age, approximately 250000 – 400000 years ago. The spells of access, being and creating are now broken and Karhuoja -collective – a group of artist – ar in the process of identifying, categorising and presenting the findings.

Our hypothesis is that the civilisation was made of combination of animals, plants, fungi, minerals and bacteria and they had a culture that possessed information and practices with the surrounding nature that we can only imagine. For instance our studies have shown that the civilisation had a skill to communicate directly with the trees. Karhuoja Collective’s job is to find our the secrets of the civilisation and Metsä Ry is presenting the results in its context. 

We are witnessing products and experiences from the forest that may increase the value of the forest 100 times or more.  We humans haven been investigating, exploring and using the assets, but where does this innovations actually come from? In our research we have identified remains from the lost civilisation from the eastern Lapland nearby Karhutunturi. Our exploration have revealed that the civilisation had a high culture and relationship with the forest beyond our imagination. 

We claim that the lost civilisation left us cues where to look. Fornemus (Metsä ry) and Karhuoja collective are presenting the origins of the innovations and the current examples of the concrete products, ideas and concepts made by humans.

The current observations will be described in the lecture held at the Pagan festival, and a song created about culture’s relationship with nature will be published.

Revontulet kansanperinteessä, mytologiassa ja astrologiassa

Revontulet ovat vaikuttavimpia luonnonilmiöitä, joita ilmakehässä voi nähdä. Siispä niiden ympärille on vuosisatojen aikana syntynyt lukemattomia tarinoita, myyttejä ja selityksiä. Ne on aikojen saatossa nähty onnen tuojina, tuhon enteinä ja väläyksinä tuonpuoleisesta maailmasta. Luennolla pureudutaan aiheeseen mytologian ja kansanperinteen näkökulmasta ja lopuksi vastataan yleisön esittämiin kysymyksiin. Tervetuloa!

Mustat noidat

Musta noita on nimitys noidasta, jonka tietoisuus on jatkuvassa yhteydessä kaikkiin energiakerroksiin. Heidän tietoisuutensa skannaa jatkuvasti eri ulottuvuuksien ja maailmankaikkeuksien energiaa havaitakseen niissä tapahtuvia muutoksia. Mustan noidan yksi tärkeimmistä tehtävistä on tasapainon ylläpitäminen kaikkialla eri ulottuvuuksissa. He ovat jatkuvassa aktiivisuuden tilassa ja heillä on kyky hallita tasapainon ja kaaoksen energiaa. Heidän jokainen tekonsa, sanomisensa ja energiamuutoksensa on tarkkaan harkittua. 

Mustat noidat liikkuvat ympäri Maapalloa ja suorittavat erilaisia tasapainoa ylläpitäviä rituaaleja, joko yksin tai yhdessä muiden mustien noitien kanssa. Luennolla kuulet, mitä mustat noidat ovat ja minkälaisia rituaaleja he suorittavat.

Elina Sjöblom, Sysimaan noita, pitää luennon. Hän on visionääri, Pakanafestarien perustaja ja festarijohtaja sekä Suomen Noitaopiston pääopettaja. Hän työskentelee monipuolisesti pakanallisuuden ja noituuden parissa, auttaen ja inspiroiden näitä yhteisöjä.

Black witches

A black witch is a designation for a witch whose consciousness is in constant contact with all energy layers. Their consciousness is constantly scanning the energy of different dimensions and universes to detect changes in them. One of the most important tasks of a black witch is to maintain balance in all the different dimensions. They are in a constant state of activity and have the ability to control the energy of balance and chaos. All their actions, sayings and energy changes are carefully considered.

Black witches do move around the Earth and perform various balancing rituals, either alone or together with other black witches. Lecture will lead you to find out what black witches are and what kind of rituals they perform.

Elina Sjöblom, The Witch of Sysimaa, gives the lecture. She is a visionary, the founder and festival director of Pagan fest and the head teacher of Finnish Academy of Witchcraft. She works diversely with paganism and witchcraft, helping and inspiring these communities.

Ikilehto – luonnonhautausmaiden perinteet ja tulevaisuus

Ikilehdon luonnonhautausmaa palauttaa vainajan osaksi luonnon kiertokulkua. Keskustelemme siitä, miten muinaiset tavat ja rituaaliset paikat, kuten jatulintarhat ja uhripuut, inspiroivat tätä luonnonläheistä hautausmuotoa. Luento vie myös Kolin Ikilehtoon ja sen suunnitelmiin, tarjoten kuvia luonnon helmaan tulevista rituaalipaikoista.

Stephanie Sinclair-Lappi on Ikilehdon ja Suomen Luontohautausliiton perustaja. Hautausalalla on pitkät perinteet hänen suvussaan, ja luonnonläheiset hautausmuodot kutsuivat häntä Mansaarella vietettyjen vuosien aikana. Stephanie on opiskellut OBOD-druidijärjestön hautausseremonioita ja johtaa Kolin Ikilehto -projektia Joensuussa.

Ikilehto – Traditions and the Future of Natural Burial Grounds in Finland

Ikilehto’s natural burial ground returns the deceased to nature’s cycle. We’ll explore how ancient customs and ritual sites, such as stone labyrinths and sacred trees, inspire this nature-based burial practice. The talk will also provide a glimpse into Kolin Ikilehto, showcasing images of planned ritual spaces and the surrounding nature.

Stephanie Sinclair-Lappi is the founder of Ikilehto and the Finnish Natural Burial Association. With deep roots in the funeral industry and experience in natural burial practices from her time living on the Isle of Man, Stephanie is a certified Funeral Celebrant through the OBOD Druid Order and is currently leading the Kolin Ikilehto project in Joensuu.

Kryptozoologinen maailma, myyttien ja tieteen asema eri kulttuureissa

Tällä luennolla perehdytään myyttisten olentojen ja eläinten asemaan eri kulttuureissa sekä siihen, miten niihin suhtautuminen heijastuu ja vaikuttaa yhteiskuntiin ja kulttuureihin. Samoin tarkastellaan myös vaikutusta siihen, miten ihminen henkisesti eri kulttuureissa hahmottaa itseään, myyttejä ja ympäröivää maailmaa.

Kryptozoologia on tieteen suuntaus, jossa pyritään tutkimaan ja todistamaan myyttisten olentojen olemassaolo, perustelujen pohjautuessa eläinkunnan tieteelliseen tutkimukseen. 

Luennossa kryptozoologisia teemoja käsitellään siitä näkökannasta, mikä tarve meillä on länsimaissa perustella tieteellisesti asioiden olemassaolo, ja miten ymmäryksemme voi laajentua, jos voimme vain hyväksyä ja ymmärtää yhteiskuntana sen, että asioita mitä tieteellisesti ei ole todistettu, saattaakin olla olemassa.

Aleksi Lehtisellä on vuosikymmenien kokemukseen perustuvaa ymmärrystä ja perehtymistä mytologisiin teemoihin, johtuen elämästään sekä länsimaissa että Kaakkois-Aasiassa näiden alueiden kulttuurien äärellä tekemiensä havaintojensa ja opintojensa pohjalta.

Lecture on Cryptozoology and Mythical Animals 

This lecture delves into the status of mythical creatures and animals in various cultures and how attitudes towards them reflect and influence societies and cultures. It also examines how these perceptions affect how people in different cultures mentally conceptualize themselves, myths, and the surrounding world.

Cryptozoology is a field of study that aims to research and prove the existence of mythical creatures, basing its justifications on scientific investigation of the animal kingdom.

The lecture will explore cryptozoological themes from the perspective of why there is a need in Western societies to scientifically justify the existence of phenomena and how our understanding can expand if we, as a society, can accept and comprehend that things not scientifically proven may indeed exist.

Aleksi Lehtinen brings decades of experience and understanding of mythological themes, based on his life and studies in both Western countries and Southeast Asia, where he has observed and studied the cultures of these regions.

Länsi-Suomen lemmenloitsut

Lempi oli ennen vanhaan vaarallinen voima, jonka kanssa ei sopinut leikkiä liian kevyin perustein. Länsi-Suomessa lemmentaiat olivat voimallisia ja käytössä oli kyseenalaisiakin keinoja. Mutta minkälaisia taikoja sitten käytettiin? Ja olivatko lemmennostoloitsut vain ja ainoastaan naisten erityisosaamista? Näihin kysymyksiin vastaa Juha Jyrkkään kokoama teos Länsi-Suomen lemmenloitsut, josta käydään luennolla pääpiirteet läpi.

Love spells of Western Finland

In the old days, love was a dangerous force that should not be taken lightly. In Western Finland, love spells were powerful and sometimes involved questionable methods. But what kind of spells were used? And were love spells exclusively the specialty of women? These questions are answered in Juha Jyrkäs’ compiled work ”The Love Spells of Western Finland,” which will be outlined during the lecture.

Tarot-kortit loitsurituaaleissa 

Pakanafestareilla kuullaan Citynoidan luento: “Kuinka hyödyntää tarot-kortteja magiassa ja rituaaleissa”. Tarot-kortit soveltuvat paitsi ennustamiseen myös moninaiseen muuhun käyttöön. Rikkaan ja monimuotoisen symboliikkansa vuoksi ne ovat loistavia loitsutyön fokuksina, ja tulevaisuutta muovaavissa loitsuissa. Luennossa käydään läpi makro- ja mikrolumouksia kokonaisvaltaisessa loitsutyössä, ison ja pienen arcanan erot loitsutyössä, tarot alttarilla, tulevaisuuden määrittäminen tarot-luennan avulla ja käytännön esimerkkejä ja mahdollisia sudenkuoppia. Citynoita lupaa, että luennon jälkeen et enää katso tarot-pakkaasi pelkästään psykologisesta näkökulmasta, vaan siitä tulee yksi yksi tärkeimmistä loitsutyökaluistasi.

Citynoita on työskennellyt tarotin ja magian parissa parikymmentä vuotta. Hän on eklektinen nykynoita, joka viihtyy tienristeyksissä: valot ja varjot, kaupunki ja luonto, filosofia ja käytännöllisyys, kaikki sulautuvat saumattomaksi kudokseksi joka heijastaa niin eletyn elämän todellisuuksia kuin magian mahdollisuuksiakin. Citynoita lätkii tarot-kortteja, pohtii syntyjä syviä ja miettii kauppalistaa, kaikkia mahdollisesti samanaikaisesti.

Tarot cards in spell rituals 

Citynoita (City Witch) will give a lecture ”How to use tarot cards in magic and rituals” at the Pagan Fest. Tarot cards are not only suitable for divination but also for many other uses. Due to their rich and diverse symbolism they are excellent as focuses for spellwork and in spells that shape the future. The lecture will cover macro and micro enchantments in comprehensive spellwork, the differences between the major and minor arcana in spellwork, tarot on the altar, determining the future with the help of a tarot reading and practical examples and possible pitfalls. Citynoita  promises that after the lecture you will no longer look at your tarot deck only from a psychological point of view but the tarot deck will become one of your most important spellcasting tools.

Citynoita has worked with tarot and magic for a couple decades. She is an eclectic modern witch who thrives in the crossroads: light and shadows, cityscapes and wild nature, philosophy and practicality, all themes blend together in a seamless tapestry of both real life experiences and enchanted possibilities. She throws tarot cards, wonders about sorcery and goes through her grocery lists – probably at the same time.

Mitä on sateenkaareva kansanperinne?

Suomalais-skandinaavinen kansanperinne on mainettaan sateenkaarevampaa. Tietäjät ja shamaanit muuttavat sukupuoliaan mielensä mukaan tai ovat kaikkien binääristen määritelmien ulkopuolella, miehet hakevat miespuoliset rakastettunsa Tuonelasta asti ja menevät heidän kanssaan naimisiin täysin avoimesti. Uskomusolennoilla voi olla samaan aikaan kohtu ja parta.

Rimma Erkko (FM) on väitöskirjatutkija ja kirjailija/kuvittaja, jonka mielestä painajaisissa voi olla taikaa. Häntä kiinnostaa pimeä historia ja groteski kansanperinne. Hänen esikoisromaaninsa Teräsjää ilmestyy syksyllä. Sen lisäksi häneltä on ilmestynyt kolme kaunokirjallista teosta, kaksi kansanrunokokoelmaa ja yksi yhteistyössä kirjoitettu tietokirja.

What is queer folklore?

Finnish-Scandinavian folklore is queerer than one might imagine. Seers and shamans change their sex as they please or have fluid identity beyond binary. Male lovers find each other from depths of underworld and get married without a bride. Mythical beings have both womb and beard.

Rimma Erkko (MA) is doctoral researcher, writer and illustrator, who finds magic in nightmares. He is interested about dark history and grotesque folklore. His first novel Steel cold (Teräsjää) is published in October. Additionally, he has published one poetry collection of his own, two collections of folk poetry, children’s fairytale book and collection of short stories. He has also been co-author in one non-fiction book.

Myyttiset olennot pohjalaisessa maisemassa

Teillä kulkee perin outoa väkeä. Nevalla kuuluu harmaiden helmojen kahahdus, jotain valkeaa liikkuu hämärässä. Kuuluuko jostain lapsen itkua? Mitä odottaa veden pinnan alla?

Ennen vanhaan tunnettiin lukuisia luonnossa ja kulttuurimaisemassa asustavia myyttisiä olentoja. Vanhat uskomustarinat kertovat näistä olennoista ja ihmisten yliluonnollisista  kokemuksista.

“Maisema on täynnä varjoja ja olentoja. Jotkut niistä ovat asuneet täällä jo ennen meitä, jotkut ovat joskus olleet kaltaisiamme. Maiseman muisti on kirjoitettu tarinoihin.”

Riina Peltonen (FM) on historiaa ja mytologiaa rakastava tietokirjailija ja käsityöyrittäjä Käreitär-toiminimen takana. Hänen uusi teoksensa Tervahaudan haltija – Myyttisiä tarinoita Pohjanmaalta ilmestyy syyskuussa 2024. Hänen aikaisempi kirjansa Noitia, kalloja. vedenhenkiä – Maaginen matkaopas Pohjanmaalle ilmestyi vuonna 2021.

Mythical Creatures in the Ostrobothnian Landscape

Strange folk travel these paths. The swish of gray skirts is heard in the bog, something white moves in the twilight. Is that a child’s cry you hear? What awaits beneath the surface of the water? In the old days, numerous mythical beings were known to inhabit nature and cultural landscapes. Old folk tales tell of these creatures and people’s supernatural experiences.

“The landscape is full of shadows and creatures. Some have lived here long before us, some were once like us. The memory of the landscape is written in stories.”

Riina Peltonen (M.A.) is a nonfiction author and craft entrepreneur behind the Käreitär brand, with a love for history and mythology. Her new book, *Tervahaudan haltija – Myyttisiä tarinoita Pohjanmaalta* (The Guardian of the Tar Pit – Mythical Stories from Ostrobothnia), will be published in September 2024. Her previous book, *Noitia, kalloja, vedenhenkiä – Maaginen matkaopas Pohjanmaalle* (Witches, Skulls, Water Spirits – A Magical Travel Guide to Ostrobothnia), was published in 2021.
